About us

Foregate Street Dental Clinic building in Chester city centre

Practice Ethos

Foregate Street Dental Clinic was established many years ago. Ad Gideonse joined the practice in 2001 as a partner, taking over completely in December 2013. Since then we as a team have embarked on a programme of improvement and refurbishment.

Our practice ethos is to look after our patients as if you were family. We try at all times to do our best to give the best care.

When you register with our practice you can choose the dentist you wish to see. Or if you have no preference we will offer you our first available appointment with one of our three dentists. Thereafter all your routine care will be with that dentist.

In February 2016 we were inspected by the CQC. We were very pleased to have an excellent report

We are a member of the BDA Good Practice Scheme, which means that we follow the guidance set out by the BDA good practice scheme to adhere to best practice.

Drs Ad Gideonse

Practice Principal
Drs Ad Gideonse
GDC No: 71525

Ad first came to England in 1996 for a year or two, but he liked it so much he is still here. Born in the Netherlands, Ad qualified in 1991 from the University of Groningen. After qualifying he did his compulsory national service with the Dutch army, working as a dentist and then worked for five years as an associate in the Netherlands.

In England Ad first came to practise as an associate in Hastings, but decided to move his family to this area to be closer to relatives. He joined the Foregate Street Dental Clinic in the summer of 2001, taking over from the retiring Mr Massie. Since then changes have resulted in him becoming sole practice owner at the end of 2013 and he works tirelessly to upgrade and continually improve our practice.

Ever the Dutchman, Ad cycles to work in all weathers. He is a lifelong rower and has been a local scout leader since 2009. He enjoys walking either with his dog or in the Lake District fells. He is married with two teenage children.

After passing the qualifying examination (General Dental Council - UK) in 2006, Nav worked as a Senior House Officer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Lincoln County Hospital for 18 months. During this time, she gained extensive experience in dento-alveolar surgery and after further expanding her knowledge and skills went on to gain Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2008. Before joining our practice Nav has worked in Llangollen, Rossett and Oswestry.

Mr Andy J Mizen BDS

Practice Associate
Mr Andy J Mizen BDS
GDC No: 68938

Andy is originally from Wrexham and decided relatively early on to follow in his father’s professional footsteps. Showing a singular lack of imagination, he proceeded to the same dental school at Liverpool University, qualifying in 1993. After what felt like a baptism of fire working in Liverpool and on the Wirral, he spent three years working in Wiltshire, not far from where the family name seems to have originated.

Three further years in his home town followed, with a move to Chester where he has worked for fourteen years. In his spare time, he enjoys history, archaeology and riding his four bikes (contrary to his wife’s belief, not an excessive number) and listening to his son playing one of his many musical instruments.

Dental Therapist

Jenny graduated from The Greater Manchester School for dental Care Professionals in March 2015 with a dual qualification in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy. She joined our team in May 2015 and is a very welcome and valuable member.

Jenny can provide periodontal and restorative treatment. She works with our patients to help them improve and maintain good oral hygiene, and will tailor advice to meet each individual’s needs. She particularly enjoys working with dentally anxious and paediatric patients.

Jenny is a member of the BADT and BADHT. She regularly attends courses and conferences to further her professional development.

Jenny enjoys Pilates, music and travel.
